It may not sound exciting to say I go to Cleveland twice a year, but I go there to tape a TV show! Here I am on the set of the PBS series, Beads, Baubles, and Jewels with host Katie Hacker. We're excited to be working together, can you tell? Katie is the host with the most, and makes it SO much more fun than ever.
On the table are yummy new "sunflower" Swarovski crystal fancy stones, which I show used in a beaded netting bezel technique. (You have to wait for the series to air before that project is available, sorry!) You know, I'm not usually a big yellow fan but this sunflower color is just brilliant and fiery. A true dazzler!
Thanks to Beadalon, who sponsored my segments. I only use their WildFire beading thread for all my seed beading--all my beading, actually. Thanks to Swarovski for sending me samples of this fabulous new color, and to John Bead Company for the Miyuki Delicas I also used in this lesson.
I think this series will air about April. Stay tuned!
I'm so happy to hear that you're taping new segments! Doodlebeads is my favorite part of the show. Also, thanks for saying the brand name of your beading thread. I asked for "thermally bonded beading thread" at my local bead shop and they all looked at me like I was nuts (and they seem to be a big shop and generally well-informed). Anyway, thanks for the great news!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen!
ReplyDeleteThermally bonded beading thread is a generic term, and most magazines try their best to be diplomatic about their resource descriptions because many companies provide such products under various other names. You know, it's like calling tissues "kleenex" even if it's a scott product. Since this is my personal blog, I am free to mention WildFire or any other brand specific products I choose--but reest assured I only do so when I personally believe in and use a product.
Thanks for enjoying my segments on Beads, Baubles, and Jewels, and my DOODLEBEADS in particular. Have you seen the two DVDs with all my aired lessons? I sell both volume I and II on my Sleepless Beader shop on etsy.com.
Now go back to your bead shop and tell them to stock WildFire. :-) I think .006 lb is useful for almost all beadwork.
OOOPS, Leslie! .006" is the DIAMETER for the 10 lb BREAK WildFire.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you - I like WildFire better than the other "thermally bonded" thread. We carry both, but like other things, we only carry the other one because beaders "expect" to find it in a bead store.
Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteThanks Deb--the .006 is indeed the diameter of the thread, not the weight itself. The .006 is actually 10 lb weight, meaning it takes a whopping 10 pounds of force to break it. :-)
